The Metropolitan Police have ramped up patrols in Leytonstone after a man was stabbed to death. 

The Leytonstone community will see a heightened police presence in the coming days after a man was killed at an address in South Birbeck Road yesterday (April 18). 

A murder investigation is underway and a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody. 

Det Ch Insp Mark Rogers, leading the investigation, said: “While a man has been arrested and our investigation is making progress, I am still keen to hear from  anyone who lived in the local area and may have seen or heard anything that could help us.

Officers were called at 11.51pm last night to the address with reports of a fight in the property. 

The victim, believed to be aged 33, was found with stab injuries and later died at the scene despite the best efforts of the first responders.

His family are yet to be informed and a post mortem will be carried out. 

Ch Supt Dan Card, responsible for policing in Waltham Forest and Newham, said: 
“I understand and share the shock that a violent incident like this will have on the local Leytonstone community.

"However, I want to reassure residents that an experienced team of specialist officers is already diligently working to established what happened.

“Residents will see an increased police presence in the area over coming days, including local officers.

"I would ask anyone with concerns to approach and talk to them, or alternatively speak with your local Safer Neighbourhoods team.”
